So, I finally got out to the store yesterday and looked at the label of my Junior Mints. There it was, the very last ingredient. Gelatin. Ugh. I switched to Junior Mints after finding that my former favorite, York Peppermint Patties, had egg white in them. Not sure if I just missed the gelatin or if that is a recent addition. Why does all my favorite crappy mass produced candy have some kind of animal product in it? Thank God for Trader Joe's dark chocolate. Thanks to Shenandoah Vegan for pointing this out.
On a happier note, here is a delicious dinner, courtesy of Appetite for Reduction (the Thai Red Tofu), and Happy Herbivore (Teriyaki Chickpeas). And look at all that green stuff!

No apologies necessary. It would be wondrous news if Junior Mints were to become vegan.
Junior Mints were my all time fav also. I recently found out they weren't vegan also....bummer! :(
I never knew about Junior Mints being vegan anyway...but maybe all this chatter will make them vegan!! Love that platter of yum!
I too am learning that some of my old time favorires have 'hidden' ingredients. And I do not like it when ingredients have other names...makes me mad.
I emailed Tootsie Roll who makes Junior Mints regarding the gelatin in the Junior Mints. Here was their response:
"Thank you for contacting us. As of last October, Junior Mints no longer contain gelatin of any kind. As new packaging is ordered, the ingredient listing will be up-dated. Thanks for the interest."
That is awesome! Thanks!
Just talked to the corporate Junior Mints people. They have assured me several times now that they are no longer using gelatin. They are using up all their old packaging. So, us vegans may enjoy our Junior Mints!
I realize this is an old post, but I just wanted to bring to light the confectioner's glaze in Junior Mints. It's most likely not vegan as it is generally made from the secretions harvested of the lac bug.
